TL;DR What makes this hotel special? Why should I stay here?
This new boutique hotel in Charleston SC arrived with quite the fanfare, and we are all the way on board.
Carefully designed by the ever-impressive Method Co., The Pinch occupies a set of historic buildings in the middle of Charleston, South Carolina’s famous elegance.
They’ve nailed the goal to both fit in and stand out, deftly incorporating the buildings’ historical features into a more contemporary aesthetic that nonetheless seems to speak the same language as the surrounding Gilded Age, Civil War-era establishments.
What are the rooms like?

Within the hotel and the adjacent buildings you’ll find accommodation to fit all needs. Guest rooms are roomy, with king beds, washers & dryers, smart TVs, notably well-stocked minibars and at least a kitchenette in all.
It’s like waking up in your dream studio apartment.
If your dream apartment is not, nor will ever be, a studio, the suites have similar amenities with separate living areas and lots of extra space.
They have gorgeous one-bedroom options and their two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite overlooks the street for the best in people watching.
The quality of amenities and attention to detail in everything really elevates The Pinch as a place to stay.
It’s obvious in the design, with bespoke furniture pieces, first-class artwork and sophisticated accent walls that add a soft, artful personality.
The houseplants are a lovely touch as well.
Bathrooms are, as you’d expect, gorgeous in appearance and well-considered in design. They’re sunny and airy with white tile, soft wood and Aesop bath amenities that give even more of that this-is-your-brightest-timeline feeling.

And what’s the food like? Any facilities we should know about?
You’ll find coffee, tea, and pastries available each morning, and a complimentary welcome cocktail or mocktail, which never hurts.
All guests have the ability to cook for themselves, and your fridge and pantry can be pre-stocked to your liking pre-arrival.
That being said, you’ll love Lowland, the hotel’s tavern, and everything at The Quinte, the hotel’s oyster bar, is a don’t miss.
Since its arrival, the small enclave of a restaurant, named after the billiard’s hall that occupied the hotel’s historic building, has captivated Charleston’s dining scene.
The hotel spa is a small, serene room in the center of the complex, where you can wind down from the day with a long massage, or luxurious facial.
They offer in-room service as well, so you don’t even have to walk downtsairs.
You can get your access card for the fitness partnership with MUSC Wellness Center, set up private sailing trips, and claim a hotel bike at the front desk.
We highly recommend taking a bike out to explore the gorgeous landscape around Charleston.
How is the location? Anything interesting nearby?
You’re in the heart of King Street, the busiest and most exciting part of the city. Here you can jump on a nonstop cycle of shop, eat amazing food, drink amazing drinks, and shop some more that doesn’t stop until you want it to.
You’ll also be walking distance from Waterfront Park, an expanse of seaside greenery with a lovely half-covered pier.
The French Quarter has museums and historical spots woven into its charming streets, and Marion Square provides both history and a Farmer’s Market on select days.
And what about the reviews? What did other guests think?
Some things guests liked:
”Great hotel and staff, restaurants also excellent. Really smart hotel, very contemporary and design led. Rooms very large. Home away from home….”
”Everything about this hotel from the location, staff, room size, room amenities, charm, and communication were exceptional. We booked a king and were upgraded to a one bedroom deluxe that was the size of an apartment. They texted with me in advance of my stay to communicate a road closure on the day of my arrival. They send a link for valet and my car was ready and waiting 1 minute after I indicated I needed it on the app. The room was so well appointed and being able to do laundry in room was a plus. The bar across the courtyard was outstanding….”
Some things guests didn’t like:
”The lighting in the bathroom wasn’t the best for makeup (the magnifying lighted mirror was very dim or broken at the time). The grab & go breakfast options in the lobby were limited, but with so many amazing restaurants nearby that was not a deal breaker for us….”
”Nothing really – there’s a lovely courtyard but nowhere in the lobby or elsewhere to linger. Would be great if there was an inside area to sit and wait for taxis etc. that wasn’t right by the check in desk. That is hugely nitpicking a wonderful hotel….”
